California notices & regulatory information

Last updated: May 2026 · San Diego County, California

Pathway Behavioral Group provides services in California. This page summarizes common California frameworks families ask about and points to our Privacy Policy for details on personal information. It is informational only and does not replace legal, clinical, or benefits advice.

Privacy & consumer rights (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of certain uses of personal information. We summarize how to reach us in our Privacy Policy. For background from the State of California, see the Office of the Attorney General CCPA page (opens in a new tab).

Medical & health information

California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA) adds protections for medical information under state law. When services are subject to the federal HIPAA rules, those rules also govern exclusions, authorizations, and rights to access or amend the designated record set. Your intake paperwork and notices of privacy practices explain what applies to your care.

Developmental services & regional centers

Many California families receive developmental disability services through a regional center under the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act and oversight of the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Eligibility, individual program plans, and vendor requirements are determined by the regional center and state rules—not by this website. Contact your service coordinator for plan-specific questions.

Behavioral health professionals

Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) follow certification requirements from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and applicable California statutes and regulations for scope of practice. California licensed mental health professionals (for example LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, licensed psychologists) are regulated by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) or other state licensing boards. Credentials of individuals on your care team are available upon request through our offices.

Medi-Cal & publicly funded programs

Families using Medi-Cal or other public programs may have specific authorization, billing, and fair-hearing rights under state and federal law. The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) publishes program information for Californians. For eligibility or coverage questions, use the contact information on your benefits documents or your regional center or health plan.

Federal surprise billing protections (No Surprises Act)

The federal No Surprises Act limits certain surprise out-of-network bills for emergency and some post-stabilization care, restricts certain out-of-network charges at in-network facilities, and requires good-faith estimates for many uninsured or self-pay patients. How it applies depends on your coverage, setting, and network status—not every behavioral health visit fits the same rules as emergency facility billing. Use your plan documents, explanation of benefits, and the materials we give you at intake for your situation. Official consumer information is on CMS No Surprises Act resources (opens in a new tab).

NPI & verifying providers

The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is used for billing and administration; many records are searchable in CMS’s public NPPES registry. This site is for general community information and does not list every billing entity or NPI that might appear on your claims. For the identifiers tied to your services or authorizations, use your plan materials or ask our office. You can also search the registry at NPPES NPI Registry (opens in a new tab).
